According to Wikipedia, right now The Witcher consists of ten books, although only nine of those ten have been published in Spanish.

The main plot of the books is the adventures of a witcher, Geralt of Rivia, one of the last on earth, and how he interacts with other characters.

The author He provided Geralt with a number of unique characteristics. For starters, Witchers in their universe are monster hunters. They are people who were genetically modified in their youth to gain supernatural abilities and special combat capabilities.

In other words, we could say that they are supermen.

Throughout the books you can follow the story of Geralt of Rivia and everything that happens to him. Specifically, the titles are:

  • Wiedźmin, without translation in Spain (although in Polish that word would be The Witcher).
  • The Last Wish (The Last Wish), published in Spanish in 2002.
  • Miecz przeznaczenia (The Sword of Destiny), also published in 2002.
  • Krew elfów (The blood of the elves), published in Spain in 2003.
  • Czas pogardy (Time of Hate), which was published a year later.
  • Chrzest ognia (Baptism of Fire), was released in Spain in 2005.
  • Wieża Jaskółki (The Swallow's Tower), published in Spanish in 2006.
  • Pani Jeziora (The Lady of the Lake), published in Spain 3 years later.
  • Coś się kończy, coś się zaczyna (Road of No Return), published in 2001.
  • Sezon burz (Storm Season), the latest, published in 2015.

Originally, the author has not published anything further on this book series since 2013.

Now, the truth is that the order of the books is a bit chaotic. The author, when he came up with the story, did not think it would be a saga, And so he simply sat down to write, letting the characters take the reins of the story.

The problem? That throughout the books, he had to adjust his creation with prequels and books that, although they were published later, should really be read before others.

What is the best order to read The Witcher books?

Andrzej Sapkowski

If you want to read all of The Witcher books, but would like to do so in the best possible order, then The first one you should read is the last one published, Storm Season, because it is a prequel to the entire saga. It delves into many of the characters that appear, as well as the different scenarios that will appear later in the story.

El The second book would be The Last Wish. This one is recommended because it's where Geralt of Rivia is introduced, as well as the bard Jaskier. It's also the one they used to create the Netflix series. Of course, you can also alternate them, i.e. read this first and then the Season of Storms.

El The third book to read would be The Sword of Destiny. They are a collection of stories, but they are important for the following books.

The fourth book would be the pentalogy of the story of Geralt and Ciri, which is composed of: The Blood of Elves, Time of Hate, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake.

This makes a total of 8 books, so it would only be missing the last of them, which is Road of no return. Like The Sword of Destiny, this is also a collection of stories where you will learn more about Geralt of Rivia, other characters and also the continuation of The Lady of the Lake.
