This book is a meticulous and ironic review. Metaliterature at its finest. Juan Tallón dives through his favorite texts: novels, essays, short stories... and uses his clinical eye to weave the same surface where everything coexists harmoniously. “The work had to be an essay, but I wanted it to be a novel. It is a biography…”, affirms the writer.

In the pages of this book, Juan Tallón talks about his life through his readings, while analyzing the plots and narrative styles of many works that marked the years he has lived.

As long as there are bars (2016)

Through this narrative work, Juan Tallón allows the reader to visualize the anecdotes of unusual characters. Cinema and literature are a fundamental part of this story told from sarcasm and the lucid vision of those who unfold in a multicolored reality.

Accustomed to crossing the threshold of the obvious, the author himself puts the focus of the plot on one of the most important writers of his generation.

Onetti's toilet (2017)

The protagonist of this book is more than an alter ego of Juan Tallón. The plot unfolds through the life of a writer who decides to move to Madrid. This process of going from one place to another turns out to be good and bad at the same time. The purpose of the move is to find a more peaceful place to write, but when they arrive, the man does not write.

Juan Carlos Onetti is influenced by a bad neighbor who, in contrast, has the perfect wife. Likewise, the alcohol, the bars, the characters that will take you on exciting adventures form a picture of the beauty of some failures. Realism and fiction are mixed in a plot written in the first person, in a simple but humorous way.

Wild West (2018)

Nico Blavatsky is a journalist who has problems in his romantic relationship. In the newspaper where he works things are not going very well either: the information that reaches the readers is filtered by the directors, due to the request of high-ranking personalities.

At the same time, Nico begins to investigate alleged economic crimes. Soon, Blavatsky is involved in a succession of events related to politics and the mafia.

Much of the events reflected in the plot are related to urban planning operations. The work itself demonstrates the dark side of material wealth.

Rewind (2020)

This work is about the possibility or the impossibility of remembering. It all begins with the explosion of a building in Lyon. This tragic event marks a reference for the entire plot. A Friday in May loomed like a perfect day, when suddenly there is an impact. One of the hardest hit flats is home to several students from different countries.

The previous night, Emma —a young Spanish woman haunted by her family's past—, Paul —Fine Arts student—, Luca -a talented mathematician-, and Ilka —a guitarist from Berlin— They were having a party. The residence next to that of the students — a place that was also affected by the explosion — was inhabited by a Muslim family that, supposedly, was well integrated into French life.

The novel examines what happened that Friday through the point of view of several characters. Your memories will be of paramount importance to recapitulate the facts and complete the puzzle. The narrative also focuses on the aftermath of these events over the three years following the tragedy.

Masterpiece (2022)

The premise of this story begins with a question: how can a work of thirty-eight tons, by artist Richard Serra, disappear from the Reina Sofía museum warehouse, one of the most prestigious art centers in Spain? Well, well, the plot may seem implausible, however, this is a book of non-fiction, documented and chronological that seeks to reconstruct the facts.

In 1986, for the opening of the museum, a large work by American sculptor Richard Serra was commissioned. The star author delivered a sculpture specially designed for the area where it was going to be exhibited. The figure in question consists of four independent blocks of steel. Its dimensions are enormous, and it is immediately named as a masterpiece of the minimalist movement.

In 1990, the Reina Sofía decided to store the sculpture in the warehouse of an art storage company, due to lack of space. Fifteen years later, the museum wants to recover the figure, but it turns out that it has been stolen. No one knows how or when it happens, and there are no clues as to where it could be.
