Knife by Jo Nesbø. Harry Hole and his most personal hell

On October 17 it was published Knife, the latest novel by Jor Nesbø, twelfth installment of the series by its curator Harry Hole. But for that day I had already read it to me, that one thing is the launch date of a book and another that is before in bookstores. Also, if it's Jo Nesbø and Harry Hole my priority is absolute and I usually take an average of two or three days. This is what happens when, unfortunately or fortunately, you have more time to read.

This is my very personal review de Knife. Obviously I will shut up those moments brand of the house Nesbø, But an essential have read the previous titles or know the series fairly well. And of course abstain profane and virgins in Hells Hole. From which he has gotten into now, we will see if he can get out.

Knife

Synopsis

It seemed that everything could go more or less well, if something like this can exist in the Hole universe, when we finish Thirst. But it turns out that we started this Knife with Harry living alone after what Rakel, the only woman he's ever truly loved, ever kicked out of home. And we don't know why. What's more, has returned to drink and works relegated to the last corner of the Oslo police department. Takes care of cases that do not interest him and asks again why did he screw it up again everything in his personal life. But happiness and Harry Hole are two concepts destined never to meet.

At the same time he's on the loose Svein Finn, one of those rapists series that Harry put in jail and whom he now wants to catch again. Then Harry wakes up one morning not remembering anything from the night before, but has the blood-stained hands and clothing. It is the beginning of the worst nightmare, which comes true, which you will have to face. Or throw in the towel and disappear.

Always an enjoyment

Those of us who have the Harry Hole plot in our hearts are already more than advised against expectations, criticism or praise to a new installment that is published in the series. The same thing always happens. And with the latter also: the best plot, unsurpassed, Nesbø at its best, unbeatable, Harry more suicidal and determined than ever to discover the truth.

I do not know. They are opinions of the brainy critics specialized in the genre. I am from walking around the house. And now I also know the tricks of Mr. Nesbø. So I am left with the new absolute enjoyment and a few words: those of Nesbø on the creation process, dedicated to a handful of his readers that we were able to speak with a few days ago.

Its refined manipulation, legendary already for taking you to that situation that you may have imagined (or not), but always without realizing it. Or, rather, if you can warn it. And there is his mastery, because also always you let yourself go and you fall in the trap. Ah yes, it was this, but… how spectacularly you did it to tell me. And here he does it again.

Twists, old acquaintances and that ending ...

Of ellipsis, because that Nesbø always leaves us more hung than a Paraguayan, with a heavy heart and a fist in her mouth from the blow (s) she has given us before. And that we have smelled it, because with Harry does not cheat. He always gives you details and reasons: in conversations between the characters, in the plots, in the destiny of all according to their construction. And in the implicit of his basic premise: the most classic tragedy, with its losses, its betrayals and, especially, the feeling that always comes with: lasts longer than happiness.

So that readers that in Police o Thirst They were somewhat unhappy about those supposed happiness and calm in Harry's personal life they don't have to complain more. The nonsense is over and there it is the worst hit that you could wear. More that ending which actually anticipates us in one of those revealing conversations. First he wants to confuse us a bit. What if he returns us to Kaja Solness (The leopard) to the scene, that if he puts another suspect out there. Nothing, the end comes and we repeat: ah, yes, of course, but admired.

No compromises

No loyalty to the reader. Only to Harry, to his essence as the epitome of the antihero and also of one of the characters more romantic and epic that have been created in contemporary literature regardless of genre. And now he has fallen into his most unique hell. But there it is. Standing. Maybe one day I'll even be able to turn it off. Let's see what his almighty father decides. And that one will never listen to us.
