David G. Puertas — Interview

  • LITERATURE NEWS: The academy It is your last published novel. What do you tell us in it?

DAVID G. DOORS: The academy It's not what it seems. Is a novel with real and imperfect characters who are governed by their own arché and are not afraid to step on whoever it takes to get their way. In addition to having friendship, love, resentment, pain... it is a novel that has a little of everything. Even a corpse!

  • AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first story you wrote?

DGP: Looking back, I would dare to say that the first novel I remember reading and enjoying is The Prince of Mist, Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I have been very passionate about his literature since that moment. And in fact, his way of creating and telling stories were what pushed me to start doing it myself. The first novel that I wrote from beginning to end, I did it when I was 22 years old and it's in a drawer waiting for his moment. It needs a good correction, but the story still appeals to me. takes my breath away.

  • AL: A head writer? You can choose more than one and from all eras.

DGP: Without a doubt, Stephen King, Carlos Ruiz Zafón and Toni Hill. The three of them have accompanied me throughout my life and, without being aware of it, they have taught me to create stories and enjoy doing so.

  • AL: Which historical character would you have liked to meet and which literary character would you have created?

DGP: It's basic, but I've always felt a very strong connection with Diana of Wales. It seems to me that he was a very intelligent person and that he must have seen things that would open our eyes. Besides that he gives me vibe that it was a walking happiness.

And regarding a literary character, without a doubt I would have loved to create Pennywise. In my opinion, one of the best villains that literature has given us.

  • AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?

DGP: I don't like writing without a template. I am aware that the scale must be a volatile companion that is partly carried away by the transformation of the novel itself as it is written, but writing blindly terrifies me.

When it comes to reading I am more basic. Never leave a chapter halfway and always read with sound in the background to focus more on the story. Since I was little I read in the living room while the rest watch television.

  • AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?

DGP: I like to read the truth all the time, in fact, now I don't do it as much as I would like and it is something that weighs on me. With an 8-hour job, writing after finishing, maintaining a routine... I end up readingl finish working or before going to sleep.

  • AL: What genres do you like?

DGP: I read absolutely everything, but I am a lover of crime novel, the thriller, the horror and all kinds of novels juveniles. As long as there is a good plot twist and the story is interesting, they've got me.

  • AL: What are you reading now? And writing?

DGP: Well right now I'm dealing with several things at the same time. On the one hand, I am infinitely enjoying See you in heaven, the latest novel by my beloved David Olivas. At the same time, I am devouring Zero project, by Daniel Sánchez González and it is blowing my mind. And to top it all off, I'm enjoying the book series by Rick riordan about Percy Jackson and they have me absolutely in love.

Regarding writing, I also play several bands. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a head full of ideas for continue The academy, I have really enjoyed writing it and it is not easy to say goodbye to characters like that. But that's beyond my hands, so for now I'm focusing on new storiess, to continue investigating the genre of thriller and the suspense to gradually find my place and my voice.

  • AL: How do you think the publishing scene is in general?

DGP: In my opinion, we are living in a golden era in the publishing scene. Reading is a habit again among young people and there are more and more voices and talents to discover.

  • AL: How are you handling the current moment we live in?

DGP: I think that each of us has a panorama at the current moment. I would lie to you if I told you that I am not happy, but I am in a job that, despite exhausting me, makes me very happy, I just published my new novel, my partner is succeeding in his business, my family is healthy... I, as an individual, can't ask for more.

Regarding the social panorama we live in, I am more afraid than I would like to admit, but I trust that the waters will calm down little by little and everything returns to normal.
