BOSCO CORTÉS — INTERVIEW
- CURRENT LITERATURE: Your novel is Conspiracy — Kill the President! What do you tell us about it and where did your inspiration come from?
BOSCO CORTÉS: It takes place between 1870 - 1871, and I narrate the adventures of a lawyer to whom they have assigned the research of the assassination of the Prime Minister, General Prim.
La inspiration He came to me for consultation history book, specifically the 19th century. It struck me that only a few brief lines were dedicated to the assassination. Years later, history returned, elaborating a exercise in a creative writing course and from there the rest of the novel emerged.
- AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first thing you wrote?
BC: My first reading was Poirot investigates, by Agatha Christie. Hence Conspiracy has many elements of a detective novel.
The first thing i wrote were attempts to relate New adventures for Hercules Poirot, which I never actually finished. The position of being the first finished story is disputed by: Professor Thomas Brown and the Time Machine and the other, Atlantis, the sunken city. At that time I had some 13 years, more or less.
Authors, characters and customs
- AL: A leading author? You can choose more than one and from all periods.
I think the list is very long, from Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke. And, to name more recent discoveries, TJ Klune, Paula hawkins, Madeline Miller, etc. Although without a doubt the greatest influence is taken by Stephen King, Poe and Agatha Christie.
- AL: What character would you have liked to meet and create?
BC: More than a character I would have really liked to meet Agatha Christie, I have always believed I felt a special connection with her.
I feel that Each character is linked to its authorI don't think there are any other characters that I would have liked to create beyond those I have created. I wouldn't feel that any other characters were mine, the ones I have created are part of me.
- AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?
BC: Not especially. Maybe, if I'm writing an action or mystery scene, I usually listen to a soundtrack with music that matches what I'm telling.
- AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?
BC: I don't have any. I can write in my studio, in bed, in the library or in a crowded bar. I think In the end it is about sitting in front of the computer and writing., and after a few minutes everything around me disappears.
Genres and projects
- AL: What other genres do you like?
BC: I think right now I don't rule out any genreI used to be more reluctant to delve into certain genres, focusing my attention on horror novels, crime novels, fantasy, science fiction. But, for the past year, someone I really appreciate has opened the door to other genres for me and I have really enjoyed reading them.
- AL: What are you reading now? And writing?
BC: On the nightstand I have Achilles' song. I'm working on a novel with the provisional title of Lthe relic of the wounds, set thirty-five years before Conspiracy. I am also preparing the one that will close the cycle of the 19th century, although, on the other hand, I am going Planning a story completely different, with a new approach and with which I connect with the genre of fancy, with which I began to bring my stories to light.
Current outlook
- AL: How do you think the publishing scene is?
BC: Well, I think we are seeing a amazing response that renowned publishers merged under the roof of one publishing colossus, and that is the Emergence of more modest publishing houses, specialized in one or two genres, but with a national reach. Although, some of them are still branches of that enormous colossus. And part of that movement is caused by that phenomenon called booktok.
- AL: How do you feel about the current moment we live in?
BC: Well, let's say that as soon as On a literary level we are in the midst of a creative explosionTechnology has put tools and knowledge within everyone's reach that were previously only available to a select few, and it is no longer just a matter of self-publishing, but of being able to create one's own publishing label. Social networks continue to change our society and will continue to do so, creating and undoing trends. This is neither good nor bad, it is a reality.
When e-readers appeared, they said that books were going to disappear, and in reality both worlds are coexisting, paper books are booming thanks to special editions. And everything will continue to change and evolve, now color e-books are coming out, and that will also mean a change. And you only have to see that Amazon has finally joined in using color ink on its device.
