Tomelloso finalizes the launch of the House of Arts and Letters, an new cultural equipment conceived to safeguard and disseminate the local literary and artistic legacy, while promoting contemporary creation and citizen participation.
The City Council places this project in the House of the Galician (also known as Tree House) and works with an open horizon in late 2025 or early 2026, with European funding and a global investment of nearly one million euros to provide it with robust services and content.
A cultural project at the Casa del Gallego
The center will be located in the Gallego House rehabilitated, integrating into the Strategic Plan for Local Culture and expanding by more than Sqm 800 the city's cultural services, in coordination with the Municipal Library.
Among its spaces there is a library with bibliographic heritage, reading rooms, children's areas, a documentation center, rooms for literary and artistic events and a permanent exhibition with a strong digitalization component, as well as areas for temporary exhibitions.
The project also enables a specialized repository for conservation of high-value works and pieces, with safeguarding criteria and orderly public access, reinforcing the preservation of the local legacy.
The building will have a cave converted into a multipurpose room, an action endowed with approximately 40.000 euros, and with audiovisual materials of a documentary and tourist nature to explain the career of the most prominent figures of Tomelloso.
From the area of Cultural Services, which heads Inés Losa, the idea of moving from a one-off celebration - such as the traditional Festival of Letters on August 30 - to a active space all year round, with a program of exhibitions, meetings, conferences, mediation and cultural education.
Funding, legacy and opening schedule
The implementation is based on a investment close to one million euros, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU) through the Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination, with the participation of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha.
The content will be strengthened with high-value donations, including the bibliographic and documentary legacy of big felix and the work of Dionisio Cañas; in addition, the incorporation of funds is advanced José Luis CabañasFor its proper protection, a specific repository has been established with technical conservation criteria.

As a pole of literary tourism, the space will be integrated into the Don Quixote Route and in the network of cultural facilities in the region, with the aim of revitalizing the neighborhood, consolidating the literary identity of Tomelloso and projecting the city to the outside world in the face of the XNUMXth Centenary of its foundation.
Forecasts place the opening at the end of 2025 or, failing that, at the beginning of 2026Its function as a space for creation and support for new generations, through stable programming, cultural mediation and spaces for active participation.
The building aspires to become cultural meeting point for residents and visitors, strengthening municipal services and fostering alliances with other institutions, so that the literature and art have a continuous presence in Tomelloso throughout the year.
