Spanish public television has launched an ambitious audiovisual project that promises to shed new light on one of the darkest episodes of our past. Titled 'Lorca, the lost hours'This new documentary delves into the events surrounding the death of most influential poet from Granada of the Generation of '27, trying to accurately reconstruct their last moments of life.
Taking advantage of the fact that nine decades have passed since that fateful event, the corporation has decided to opt for a modern narrative that departs from the classic documentary style. This project is being carried out by RTVE in close collaboration with El Rugido Producciones, a recently launched production company from 'El Español' that has already made its first forays into the industry. The main objective of this partnership is combine the rigor of historians with a visual language that is attractive to new generations of viewers, accustomed to more agile narrative rhythms.
To achieve this balance, the team has carried out an impressive amount of documentation work, rescuing archival material and relying on the testimony from experts and researchers renowned. It is not simply a matter of narrating what we already know, but of putting on the table all the hypotheses that have emerged over the decades about the motivations and those directly responsible for the crime.
The return of Ángel Ruiz as Federico García Lorca
One of the documentary's greatest strengths is undoubtedly its protagonist in the dramatic reenactments. Actor Ángel Ruiz once again steps into the shoes of the writer, a role he is already very familiar with after his work on such beloved productions as 'The Ministry of Time' and 'Ena', where he already made his mark with his performance.
Ruiz has captured the essence of the poet so naturally that he has become, for many, the cinematic face of Federico. This time, the actor will face the challenge of recreating the the most tense moments of his arrest in the Rosales family home and the hours of uncertainty before their execution, providing a human element that helps to understand the magnitude of the tragedy.
The unknowns that still surround the Alfacar road
The documentary meticulously recounts the events, placing us on August 16, 1936, when the poet was arrested.
