Omar Fernández García-Jove — INTERVIEW
CURRENT LITERATURE: Your novel Salgadum has a new edition and it is the first in a series of the same name. What do you tell us about it and where did you get your inspiration?
OMAR FERNANDEZ GARCIA-JOVE: That's right, Salgadum It is my first novel. It has been republished with unpublished content and with illustrations that introduce various characters and show us some scenes from the story. Salgadum It is the origin of everything and it is the world in which I have been immersed since 2010, when my career as a writer began. In this first delivery The origin of a saga full of friendship, love, magic, anti-magic, allies, enemies, dangers… is presented.
I couldn't answer where my inspiration came from. Salgadum It is part of my life so intensely that I think I was born with their stories in my headAnd there is a lot to tell about this very interesting world that any adventurous person would like to travel to.
I always write stories that I would like to read, that is, that have action on every page. I love creating interesting characters, fill them with transcendence, give them the importance they deserve and tell what makes them so special. I think that is the secret of the good reviews my novels receive.
AL: Can you remember any of your first readings? And the first thing you wrote?
OFGJ: Perhaps my first readings related to this exciting world of fantasy literature were those of the saga of The Lord of the Rings. I started in the literary world with the help of SalgadumI had never written anything before.
Authors and characters
AL: A leading author? You can choose more than one and from all periods.
OFGJ: There are several authors who have left their mark on me. I would highlight John Ronald Reuel. Tolkien . I have also greatly enjoyed the novels of Laura Gallego y Patrick Rothfuss, among other authors.
AL: What character would you have liked to meet and create?
OFGJ: My favourite characters have been created by JRR Tolkien. I am fascinated by them because of the different roles they play, the intriguing nature of their personalities and the particularities that make them vital to the development of his stories.
One of the characters with whom I would have liked to share a few jugs of mead in a tavern and enjoy his company while he tells me his stories is the wizard GandalfI see him as a guide, a leader. Being part of an order of magicians with so much power has always been very interesting to me.
On the other hand, The character I would like to have created is Gollum (Smeagol). I find his struggle between his good side and his dark side fascinating. I think that this battle between light and darkness reflects many moments in our lives. And despite his betrayals, Gollum plays a crucial role in the story. That complexity makes him one of my favorite characters.
Customs and genres
AL: Any special habits or habits when it comes to writing or reading?
OFGJ: I don't have any mania when it comes to writing, but I do have a great obsession in my life: make the most of every free second I have. I never leave home without my tablet, just in case I have a moment to write a few lines for my next story. My mind is constantly boiling with ideas and plots, which allows me to concentrate easily and write anywhere, moment and hour.
AL: And your preferred place and time to do it?
OFGJ: Although, as I said, I can write anywhere, I am clear that my favorite place to do it is in a chiringuito beach. I love taking advantage of vacations to immerse myself in my stories while enjoying an iced coffee on the shores of any sea or ocean.
AL: What other genres do you like?
OFGJ: I like stories of intrigue, those where you don't expect where they will go. I am very demanding with the first pages of a book. I need to be captivated from the beginning, otherwise I find it difficult to continue reading.
Current outlook
AL: What are you reading now? And writing?
OFGJ: I'm reading wings of blood, by Rebecca Yarros. I am currently writing the third book in the series Salgadum, whose title I cannot yet reveal for reasons of launch and editorial marketing. I hope to be able to publish it in mid-2019. 2025.
AL: How do you think the publishing scene is?
OFGJ: It's a very difficult question to answer. It's a complicated world where there is a lot of competition and where it is very difficult to stand out, but hope is the last thing I will lose. I think that steps must be taken to value and protect the authorship of novels and illustrations. We must emphasize that it is people who really consume and enjoy reading.
AL: How do you feel about the current moment we live in?
OFGJ: Personally I take it quite well, since I am Very optimist By nature. I believe that in any age there are always challenges, but also opportunities. If I have learned anything from writing and reading fantasy literature, it is that even in the most complicated and dark moments there is light and hope. I surround myself with my family and friends, who are my greatest source of energy, and I make sure to enjoy good times with them. The world is changing very fast and we must adaptI take it as the next chapter in my book.
